Your favorite movie - In Aspect

I was thinking about The Princess Bride this morning and how it is a great example of what Aspect can do. Lots of good Mental combat to be sure. The terrorizing of the guards at the gate (and yeah, the fodder fled after a few hits, while the Basic stood his ground for a few more hits. Tear his arms off, Fezzik), the taunting of Prince Humperdink (To the pain!... Drop. Your. Sword.).

And then there was Wesley vs. Inigo/Fezzik... Wesley pulled his strikes enough to only knock them down to 0 hp.

And of course, Inigo vs. the Six Fingered Man, classic social combat during the swordplay. "Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my Father. Prepare to die." (13 words? A quip is usually 10, but I'd let it pass, considering it is a well-rehearsed line).

Fezzic admitting that he had spent so much time fighting many men at once, he'd lost his knack for fighting a single opponent. Obviously he'd taken a Martial Power Set slanted towards multiple opponents in favor over a more versatile array of combat Skills and Powers.

Also, now I think of it, Wesley was an Elite while Fezzic, Inigo, and yes Vicini were all Heroes.

I don't think Westley was an Elite, though I can see why you'd think so.
He bested a swordsman, a giant, and a genius, proving that he has higher stats than the average hero.
But I suggest that his stats aren't higher than the average hero. He bested Inigo, because he's just a really good swordsman. On that count, he potentially has better stats. He didn't prove stronger than Fezzik though. He just happened to have an advantage because Fezzik didn't have any good powers for fighting a single fast opponent. And in the battle of wits, he used an immunity to iocain (I'd call that a Talent) to make the result irrelevant.

So in conclusion, I think he had a high Physical aspect, with his best stats being Dexterity and Stamina. All his other awesomeness, I attribute to being a fairly high level, and having wisely chosen a good collection of talents, skills, and powers.

So oddly enough, not so much a movie but rather an Anime series - Naruto. Great use of Social and Mental combat to augment confrontations. Some could be solved through Mental or Social alone whereas others had interplay between the three.

I expect a translation of Avatar: The Last Airbender (most emphatically NOT the live-action movie version, thank you very much) could also be a lot of fun under the Aspect system, as mentioned elsewhere in the forums.

How 'bout the classics? Dark Crystal or The Labyrinth? I'd love to see several Goblin types and some mean fairies with their wings plucked off. Has anyone else seen the manga that they came out with based on these? Dark Crystal's was a prequel while Labyrinth is a sequel.

I did see the Labyrinth manga but haven't read it, it looked interesting though. We have several goblin types in the core rulebook (not to mention they are also in the Derriston Fire adventure module), but these are more classic Tolkienish goblins (which would probably work well for a game based on Labyrinth).

For that matter, you would probably be interested in the Fae powerset in the Supernatural power source, as it is somewhat inspired by Jareth from Labyrinth (the goblin king).

Sounds great! My wife is an even bigger Labyrinth fan than I am (personally I prefer the Dark Crystal). The Manga are really great, I couldn't recommend them enough, definitely read them if you get the chance.

I love both movie. I was really on the fence on starting the Labyrinth manga. I love manga but was afraid of the mix. So you recommend them?

Most definitely! Dark Crystal is a prequel and Labyrinth is a sequel to the movie, but they only build on things that were introduced in the movies. I've enjoyed them thoroughly.
