My character took the divine talent to find a familiar. Since a familiar can be used for both divine and arcane talents can I now take arcane toughness using the familiar from my divine talent or do indeed to take arcane nature rituals first?

The listing for Arcane - Toughness (2012 edition) specifically mentions "while you are wielding an arcane implement or in an arcane stance." So unless you expect to be using an arcane stance in combat, you should be wielding an implement supported by an arcane talent. If playing by the 2011 rules, which does not have familiars for arcane rituals, you'd need to take an arcane rituals talent.
Depending on what other talents and powers the character uses, consider Divine - Toughness.

Balain, you have it right. In the 2012 edition, the familiar counts as both a divine and arcane implement, so could be used for Arcane - Toughness, even if the familiar was gotten via a divine talent. This dual functionality works for several implements: Crown and Familiar both work as Arcane/Divine, while Athame, Tome, and Wand work for both Arcane and Supernatural.
